Requirements

There are several levels of participation in DeKalb ARES

Service Levels

Communicator is any FCC licensed person who has an interest in participating with ARES to support one of our served agencies. Duties include, message passing, station operation and general interface with the served agency personnel. Requirements include: ARRL EC001 or Gwinnett Basic Skills course, FEMA IS100b and IS700a. This person may also operate from their home station as a part of a local ARES net. All active DeKalb ARES members are expected to act as either Net Control or Alternate Net Control at least once per year. See Training page to schedule a time for your participation.

Team Leader is a person who has demonstrated the above skills and courses plus, is capable of leading a group of communicators at a served agency location. This person will have leadership responsibility for ensuring the proper operator coverage is provided as needed. Requirements in addition to those above, ARRL EC002 and FEMA IS200b, IS800b and IS802.

Site Manager is a person who has demonstrated all the above skills and courses plus, is capable of establishing an operating station at a served agency location and managing its operation with the necessary personnel. Requirements in addition to those above, may also include site specific training. For example, if the site is a hospital, there may be hospital volunteer courses you will need to take to understand their operational methods in an emergency.
