EVENTS Calendar -

DeKalb ARES welcomes our new Emergency Coordinator, George Olive (AI4UR) who will officially take office on Monday, January 23rd.  George will be assuming this leadership role from Barry Kanne (W4TGA) as Barry attempts to find out about retirement.

DeKalb ARES Yahoo Group This is where we'll announce the most recent additions to our activities calendar. If you've visited us before and want to know what's coming up, take a look here first.  Please register for our YAHOO Group to receive last minute info.

FOCUS ON WINLINK - For the next two months we will focus on getting our members to become active on Winlink messaging.  John Aaron prepared a great guide to getting started with Winlink and we are ready to offer any assistance you need to get your station up and running.  Please reach out to Barry at this link so he can get you the assistance you need in getting on the air with Winlink.

WINLINK RMS packet station info Check out the internet connected Winlink RMS Packet Station (KJ4QFY-10) located at the DeKalb Fire/Rescue Headquarters building in Tucker, GA.  We have Internet connectivity to allow handling message into/out of the worldwide e-mail system.  If you have any question about how to set up your station, please contact  Steve Garrison (n4tty at ARRL dot net) for assistance.  It is NOW on 145.59 MHz and uses callsign KJ4QFY-10.

We have moved the operating frequency for the packet station from 145.03 to 145.59 to match the new area wide packet frequency assignment.  This move will allow us to join with Gwinnett ARES to pass packet traffic.

GA ARES Database URL is: https://secure.tjsgroup.com/cgi-bin/login.pl   This is where we maintain your ARES records of activity, capabilities and course completion certificates.  You should check your record for accuracy and completeness.  Your Login Name is your callsign.  If you have not used this database, check with either Steve Garrison (n4tty at arrl.net) or Barry Kanne (w4tga at arrl.net) for password assistance.

EMERGENCY ALERTING - We now have a system that will send a e-mail or text message to your cell or PC when we are activated.  It also sends warnings from the National Weather Service that affect DeKalb County.  If you want to be on this system, I need you to send me either your e-mail address or your  cell phone number and the name of your cellular provider.  That way the system can route the alert to the proper place.  Send the info here.  We promise not to abuse this with meeting announcements and other non-critical info.  However we will send a monthly test message to ensure that your alerting link is still intact.

Our meetings are normally held on the 4th Saturday of the month at the DeKalb Fire/Rescue Headquarters building, 1950 Exchange Place, Tucker, GA 30084.  We meet in the break room.  Entrance at the REAR of the building.  You don't have to be an ARES member to attend.
